Vibrating Air

Sound is something amazing. It can be used to communicate, or even to make people feel a specific emotion or recall something. The latter part is used heavily in the entertainment industry, as when telling a story, words alone can only carry one so far. This is partly why I believe musicals are so successful, and more talked about than just regular stage shows. Not only is there a engaging story, but it is emphasized by musical numbers and (in some cases) visual effects to boot. Although, they do call them “musicals”  for a reason. Obviously the music is the focus… Now, I spent most of this Sun. listening to soundtracks. Honestly, it’s not the best use of my time, but in listening to some of these pieces, I was reminded of when I first heard them, or experiences/situations that happened while listening to them previously. Disco Descent, from Crypt of …

Player One is Ready

Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One. A novel, about a (sadly) profane, lazy, but awfully persistent guy hunting down a multi-billion dollar easter egg in the world’s most used simulation. Did I mention another group is willing to kill for some of the information he has? It’s got everything to make a feature film. Great (albeit profane) characters, action, and romance to boot. Overall I would classify it as a sci-fi adventure novel. But, it’s one that, like so many other novels of its kind, can relate to the current world. All of humanity is engrossed by technology, both in this novel and in reality. The main setting of the novel, the OASIS program, has become humanity’s “Second Life.” So much so that the actual world has become desolate and is pretty much a place to avoid. The narrator, Wade Watts, although more known as Parzival, is the first to collect …

Gifting.

I leave this simple as, well, today (6/29/16) was definitely an odd one. I had plans, glorious plans to record a VO for a video. But, things fell apart rather quickly. I woke up to be greeted by my younger sibling, which isn’t unusual, but what he said took me by surprise. A previously arranged event with one of his friends had been adjusted. It would be taking place at our home instead of his friend’s. This threw me, as I had expected a quiet home. My wish was not to be granted. Instead of starting my day on a positive, my main goal for the day was taken away. The time up until this event was, well…. Uneventful. It went by without a hitch, but I wasn’t able to complete anything I had hoped to. One other appointment I had had to be cancelled as the other party’s device …

PM: Private Message or frowned upon modification?

Last I checked, it was 2016. The internet is something that is completely normal and understood to everyone. Or so I thought. I don’t really expect many of you to understand exactly what this title is referring to. But, the issue it relates to is one that I feel needs to be brought to more people. To keep it short, Project M was a successful (and 100% free) mod for the extremely successful fighter: Super Smash Bros. Brawl.  It’s development lasted over four years, (from 2011 to 2015) and the Smash Bros. community constantly kept mentioning how this mod made Brawl more like its more competetive predecessor, Melee. However, my topic comes into play when the Miiverse platform was introduced in 2012. This service is Nintendo’s first try at a social network, and to call it perfect is a complete long shot. I could go on about all of its issues, but that’s not what …

Good Ol’ Arcades… and actual conversations.

Some may recall a time in their life when quarters were much more than just a piece of currency, they were a key into another world. Whether it be a world with giant apes throwing barrels at you or one with ghosts chasing you through a maze. (When all you wanted was a good meal.) Arcades were places where people could go to play games, compete with their friends for leaderboard positions, and just have fun. Now, they’re few and far in between. The home console market definitely led to their downfall, which makes sense. Why drive to a specific location and spend money whenever you want to play a round of Street Fighter II when you can play it at home with your friends? Well, nowadays even playing a game with a person in the same room is becoming more and more unusual. To the developers who have continued …
