Resident Nostalgia

We are in March of 2023 and one of the hottest new releases in the games industry is Resident Evil 4. One of the fastest selling Nintendo games is Metroid Prime. Counter-Strike has a new entry releasing this Summer. The Nintendo eShop on Wii U and 3DS is shutting down in a matter of hours, and my personal Wii U console has bit the dust until I can get around to learning how to solder. It’s as if time turned back about a decade or so, and I have no problem with this. The games mentioned prior have stuck around in people’s minds since they released a decade or two ago. Remakes or remasters make complete sense to make a game more easily accessible to today’s audiences (within legal means, that is) while also allowing for those who experienced them back at launch to see their favorites in a slightly …

Nintendo Switch: All You Need to Know

Have Fun Looking into the Past! Launching March 3rd, 2017. I hate to start off with a large negative, but the Switch will have a paid online system. Multiplayer will be free up until the fall of 2017. After that? Monthly subscription fees kick in for those who want to play their beloved games online with friends. Said service will act like their competitor’s with the addition of voice chat, the choice of one SNES or NES title with online functions per month and discounts on other products. More details to come. The console will have anywhere from 2.5 to 6.5 hours of battery life depending on what it’s being used for. Not unexpected, but better than what I had predicted. (3-4 Hours.) Region locking has been removed. This is a plus. Now one won’t have to purchase a whole new console from another region in order to play an unlocalized game. …

Customer Support?

During that massive trip I took, something unexpected happened. I had made a warranty claim on a PC controller that broke well within the three years of the warranty. Needless to say, getting a reminder of it in the middle of the trip was poor planning on my part. I probably wouldn’t have minded it so much if I wasn’t sent an obviously pre-written message asking me (rather coldly, I may add) to mercilessly destroy the defective device. Now, this makes sense, coming from a company as large as Logitech. It’s a way to minimize false claims, but the way it was sent. That was the real kicker. I had started with an actual human being on the other side of the emails, but with the same candy-colored background to each one. After a series of 12 emails over the course of 20 days, a resolution was finally reached. I’m …

When in…

This has definitely been an interesting week. Not only did I take my first actual train ride, but I also visited both Boston and NYC. Several hundred miles and two worn, but not dead feet later, that is. As I draft this, it’s 10:42 PM on 8/6/16 onboard the Silver Meteor train #97 bound for Miami. I left NYC over 7 hours ago, and Boston well over 60. In those places, I’ve seen and heard things I will never forget, and eaten things as well. I started off in Boston, in the Prudential Center area that is. You see, the only reason I was up there was due to a conference that required the attendance of one of my parents. Now, we were able to work out getting the rest of the family up there as well. All of us took the train, and that story is listed in my previous …

All Aboard

It’s been a long while since I’ve taken any form of public transport. My town has a local bus line, but that’s about it. I haven’t had any need for it though, as most everything is within basic driving distance. However, Boston, MA isn’t. So, instead of taking a plane, we opted to go through a more, interesting mode of transport. Locomotive.  Namely a line that goes from Miami to NYC, with a stop about once every hour. Along with constant alerts about Georgia and SC’s Dry State policies. In all seriousness, nearly every 5 minutes for 20 minutes the conductor sent out an alert about the end of their sales for that day. I guess they just had a lot in stock or something? Either way, it just began to become annoying. …And somewhat humorous. I’d never think that I’d see a Beer Run on a train. (Several, actually.)  …
